According to a Lancet study, Covid-19 in children rarely produces long-term problems.

The study found that only 77 out of 1,734 (4.4 percent) of children who tested positive for the illness had symptoms after 28 days.

According to a study published in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health journal, most children who develop a symptomatic Covid-19 infection recover in six days, and the number of children who exhibit symptoms after four weeks is low.

Researchers in the United Kingdom used a mobile application to collect data from more than 2.5 lakh children aged five to seventeen years old throughout the country.

The study discovered that headache (62.2 percent) and exhaustion were the most common symptoms experienced by the youngsters (55 percent ). The youngsters who tested positive for Covid-19 had an average sickness of six days. Only 77 out of 1,734 (4.4 percent) of the children showed symptoms after 28 days, indicating that the majority of them recovered within four weeks.

The study discovered that older children (12-27 years) had symptoms for longer periods of time than younger children (5-11 years). The average length of illness for older children was seven days, while it was five days for smaller children.

The study's principal author, Emma Duncan, said, "It's heartening that the number of youngsters reporting long-lasting symptoms of Covid-19 symptoms is low." “However, a tiny percentage of children do develop long-term sickness as a result of Covid-19, and our research backs up these children's and families' experiences.”

Children who tested positive for the coronavirus were included in the study, as were those who tested negative for the disease but had other ailments such as colds and flu.
